The slightest thing. A sedimentary rock. Six quiet people in a small room. One leaf isn’t loud. But a pile of leaves in a stiff breeze can howl. Hot water entering a cold radiator. The floorboard shifting in the winter’s dry air. Stacks of small sounds building hills and valleys.
